There are some things to consider before undergoing a project such as cost, plans, special requirements and the decision itself to do the job or would it be better to hire a professional to do the job. Many weekend warriors have experienced projects that have gone terribly wrong ending up spending more than they had hoped to save. There might also be special requirements such as electrical, plumbing or gas line piping which may require the skills of a licensed professional. Before jumping in, draw up your plan and take a step back to see the project from a distance to see whether the endeavor would indeed be within your capabilities and available timeframe.

Refrigerators can be locked with stick on clamps that are difficult to open with little hands yet allow easy access for adults. Stove-tops and knobs can be shielded with rubberized and glass shields, preventing burns and accidental opening of gas burners by those active little hands. Consider having an emergency shut-off valve installed on your oven and a gas detector that warns you of the presence of gas. The automatic shut-off prevents gas from continuously escaping an unlit stove automatically turning off to prevent fires.

Many love wood and its natural appearance going through extreme lengths to show them off. May it be flooring, wood paneling for the walls or the furniture, wood seems to transcend time and as we all know it, the older the wood the more character it holds. Old growth wood is now harder to get due to bans on cutting down trees from forests for furniture and many other uses. Timber that comes out of commercial forests is just not good enough for the wood lover. Antiques have been fetching good prices and all are due to the endearing properties of older wood from older forests we just cannot get enough of.
