Choose your desired effect and apply the second color ensuring you paint just enough area that would allow you to go over it again with to attain the texture you desire. The effect would have the base color showing through the second color giving a nice effect. The base color is usually white but the color choices are left for you to decide and they will allow you to play around with colors.
